somatic Sessions
Your body longs to be met with compassion & understanding.
Your body longs to be met with compassion & understanding.
The human body has incredible capacity for healing.
Learning how to let your body lead it's self into healing states creates conditions for profound change and reverent connection to your body. The foundation of all my offerings is rooted in Somatic Experiencing® a gentle, transformative, body-based approach to healing trauma, shame, chronic stress, relational wounding, and so much more.
What Somatic Experiencing™ ("SE") offers:
The chance to release old trauma patterns and rewire the brain and body toward safety, balance, and resilience.
Opportunities to heal from experiences your body remembers, even when your mind doesn’t.
Support for sensations stored in the body such as pain, numbness, tightness, dissociation, postural changes, or overwhelming emotions, even when the original event isn’t remembered.
A safe space to explore the body’s protective wisdom, or trauma responses, with curiosity, compassion, and skilled care.
The opportunity to uncover new pathways of safety, peace, pleasure, and homecoming beneath layers of suffering.
An authentic, grounded, and self-sourced path to discovering wholeness and meaningful connection to yourself and the world around you.
Undoing the imprints of trauma, hurts, harm that the body is still holding on to after an overwhelming event.
What to Expect
Sessions are 75 minutes long, fully clothed, and offered online or in person with advanced request. We’ll begin by checking in, arriving together, and exploring any goals you may have for how you’d like to feel or what you’d like to work on.
You'll follow your body’s impulses into different movements (such as pushing, tensing muscles, or defending your self) to naturally discharge unreleased protective energy.
Track and notice sensations in the body like expansion, warmth, or tingling as the body's doorways to healing.
Embodied grounding into present moment, to see what the body is holding in the here and now.
Explore and process challenging material and strong emotions in small, manageable doses so your system is not overwhelmed or re-traumatized.
Practice pendulation, which is moving between discomfort and supportive comfort, to build nervous system flexibility and long term resilience.
Experience trembling, yawning, sounding, shifts in breath, or waves of movement as your body releases trauma and integrates new healing pathways.
Develop stronger awareness of your body and emotions, along with growing trust in your ability to return to a secure center of Self over time.
I’ve completed the Beginning and Intermediate Years of SE training with world-renowned Senior Legacy Teacher Dr. Abi Blakeslee, PhD, one of Dr. Levine’s earliest mentees. Learn more about the three year Somatic Experiencing training here.
An Important Note:
This type of healing work needs time and consistency to take root and get a chance to work it's magic in the body. The survival patterns that have kept you safe through pain and hardship were often learned and reinforced over many years.
While a single or a few somatic sessions can be profoundly transformational for one-time events, such as processing a car accident, preparing for surgery, or moving through a panic attack - deeper and more complex patterns need space and time to be rewoven into something new.
Exploring, understanding, and gently untangling the deeper knots in the nervous system is a gradual process. Reweaving those old patterns into a new, secure, and dependable foundation of safety takes time and care.
An important reason why this work is so transformational is because trauma often teaches us to isolate and to feel like we have to do it all alone, even our healing. Yet healing in the presence of another, with skillful and compassionate support, offers the brain and body something profoundly corrective: new experiences of safety, trust, and connection. It reminds your system that you do not have to do it all alone anymore, and allows the animal of your body to heal in the way it was always wired to - through relating, connection, and co-regulation with another.
